Reflecting on Your Year
“It’s not the experience that brings transformation, it’s our reflection upon our experience.” -Jan Johnson
As we step into a new year, it's the perfect time for reflection and celebration. Yet, amidst the busyness of our daily lives (and this season), finding moments for reflection can feel like a challenge.
It's tough to carve out time for ourselves when our days are filled to the brim. And it's not just making time for reflection, but also making the space to sift through our emotions as we reflect the past year.
Creating a habit of reflection doesn't have to be overwhelming.
One simple tip to kickstart this practice is dedicating just 5 minutes each day to jot down thoughts in a journal. This consistent act can gradually build a rhythm of reflection into your routine.
Emotionally, most people shy away from sitting with difficult memories or emotions.
One way to reframe this is to consider that acknowledging these feelings is a step towards healing. Your body naturally stores these emotions, so the kindest gift you can give yourself is the space and grace to process them.
Here are five questions to ponder and journal about:
What were the highlights of the past year?
What were the most significant challenges, and how did you overcome them?
What lessons did you learn about yourself?
What are you grateful for from the past year?
What hopes and aspirations do you hold for the year ahead?
